Yes, I realize that is a pretty broad topic, so will narrow the field. In this day of enlightenment and supposed equality, why do people assume a divorced or single woman is miserable, that something is horribly wrong? Is it not possible this person is happy and productive, or does that only apply to a man? If so, WHY?
In the battle for equality in jobs, pay and parenting, the woman has always shouldered the burden. She works harder, gets paid less, takes care of most (if not all) of the responsibilities of child rearing and family finances not to mention the home.
She is woman...hear her roar...or yawn.
Yet this brave and hardy soul is someone who draws pity from those around her. I don't get it. Do you?
Is it not possible she might just be better off?
Have we not passed the point where all women need a man to "complete them?" I thought we had. I know some very vital and attractive women who have excellent jobs and have never seen the need to marry. They go on trips alone, have lovely homes and don't seem in the slightest, pitiable. I say this for all you people who are thinking "she can't GET a man." Oh- yeah- she- CAN! But, why would she want to?
They say men who are in a loving relationships live longer. I believe that. Their wives/significant others are the ones working themselves to death.
Don't get me wrong, I believe in love everlasting. I'm a romance writer, dammit! But, don't we have to love ourselves first?
I'm not saying anything bad about the menfolk. Well, not ALL men. There are some lovely, hardworking, partners out there in the world. We all know a few of them. They're the ones who coach little league and drive in the car pool, go to PTA meetings and don't run screaming from a dirty diaper. The ones who can cook a meal if the wife is working late or "just because" and aren't too proud to have supper on the table when she gets home. That's equality.
So ladies, despite what you may hear to the contrary, it is perfectly fine to be happy alone. You're not weird or needy or pitiful. You options are limitless. You GO GIRLS!
Bedtime. I have 100 bales of hay to put in the barn tomorrow morning. ROAR!
