I recently had a manuscript rejected...well not really...they asked for a Rewrite and Resubmit, known as an R&R in the trade. Why? I had written the piece in first person through the eyes of my heroine. It IS her story. They want me to change it to third person. She did thus and so as opposed to I did. ~sigh~ Their reasoning? First doesn't sell.
While I agree some people don't like to read 1st person, I also know some people DO. Myself for instance. Every single author in my hardback library writes in first and every single author is a multi bestseller. Sure I read other styles, but I connect best with first person. I become the lead.
I realize everyone has different tastes and that is what makes the world go round. My point is, to lump all readers into the same category is a huge mistake, IMO.
But hey, what do I know? I'm just a writer.
What do you read? Do you even care? Let me hear from you!
